The Pediatric Praziquantel Consortium announces positive results from its pivotal EDCTP-funded phase III trial of arpraziquantel, a new medication to treat schistosomiasis in preschool-aged children.

The Tenth EDCTP Forum is hosted by Mozambique and features the theme of equity in research for health.

EDCTP Prizes for 2020 are awarded to individuals and research teams in recognition of scientific excellence and promotion of international networking.

Professor Aboulaye Djimdé (Mali) is appointed to the EDCTP Association Board and consequently the EDCTP Association Board now comprises three African and three European members.

WHO recommends widespread use of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine, the first to gain the WHO seal of approval; EDCTP has helped to advance development of RTS,S/AS01 and several EDCTP2-funded RTS,S/AS01 post-registration studies are ongoing.

The first epidemiologists and biostatisticians funded through the EDCTP and Africa CDC joint initiative start their master’s training.

Recommendations from the EDCTP/ECRIN session held in June 2021 are integrated into the consultation of the Advisory Group on Research and Innovation for Africa-Europe Cooperation, which provides the European Commission with advice on boosting cooperation between the two continents through research and innovation.

The African Union and EDCTP sign a memorandum of understanding as the basis for cooperation in activities linked to their shared goals around health protection.

EDCTP organises a virtual meeting on global health research and cooperation at the Science Summit associated with the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA76).

Biofabri and IAVI announce a partnership to advance MTBVAC, a new TB vaccine being evaluated in two EDCTP-funded studies, into large-scale efficacy trials.

An IAVI-led consortium receives €22.8 million funding from EDCTP and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) for a phase IIb clinical trial of a novel vaccine for Lassa fever.

EDCTP and the European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN-ERIC) organise a joint session at the Africa-Europe Science and Innovation Summit on capacity building and development of clinical research infrastructure in Africa.

The European Commission announces its proposal to set up 10 new European Partnerships – including Global Health EDCTP3, the successor to the EDCTP2 programme.

EDCTP and the Global Health Innovative Technology (GHIT) Fund announce a €7.8 million joint investment in the ADOPT programme, to lay the ground for introduction of a new formulation of praziquantel for pre-school-aged children.

EDCTP and the Botnar Research Centre for Child Health jointly support three consortia working on COVID-19 projects, uniting groups previously funded independently by the two organisations.

EDCTP and the Global Health Network organise a webinar on protocol development linked to the EDCTP Knowledge Hub.

A Lancet paper reports that the R21/Matrix-M malaria vaccine showed 77% efficacy in an EDCTP-funded phase IIb trial, becoming the first vaccine to meet the WHO goal of 75% efficacy.

EDCTP and AIGHD in collaboration with WHO launch the Global Roadmap for TB Vaccine R&D at the Virtual Global Forum on TB Vaccines.
